What is an incandescent light?

An incandescent light uses a small bit of wire that glows bright when it used.  This is called a filament, it is the light bulb filament where the light comes from.
Then surrounded around the glowing wire is a special mix of gas that helps the filament to keep glowing and glowing nice and bright.  This is then reflected off of the lightbulb reflector inside
the flashlight.

Incandescent lights where the first type of light bulbs to be made and mass produced, they are the exact same thing that you have in your house at home.  The downside
to using incandescent light bulbs in flashlights is they are very fragile, don’t last long and use more power than the LED light bulbs.

What is a led light?

A led or a LED is what is called a “Light-emitting diode“. So it is a little bit different to the standard incandescent bulb.  The LED bulb is very robust and they have
a very long life span.  Huge life spans really.  For example, my LED flashlights bulb life expectancy is 50,000 hours of running time.  That is so long I’m not even going to
get the calculator out to work it out. So that was one of the best features of led light bulbs.  Another great thing is that they use way less power compared to the incandescent bulb.
And really what this means to you is that your batteries for your light will last much longer.  Again it is a hug leap in how much longer they will last.

So if you compare and incandescent vs a led flashlight the LED flashlight will totally blow the old filament light away.

Here is a neat picture of a LED bulb.  This is the bulb that is in the Fenix TK40,  it is a Cree type of LED bulb (high performance).

It gets a bit technical how led lights work compared to the standard flashlight bulbs, but its all about how the electricity effects the photons (which is where the light comes from).

Lumens means how much light it gives off.  It’s a rating of pretty much how bright a light each flashlight is capable of putting out.  It does not mean that one light might be brighter than the other because you also have to take into consideration the reflector design as well.  If you compare 200 lumens to say 2000 lumens that is a massive difference.  But if you were to compare say 200 lumens vs 300 lumens and the smaller light had a much better lens glass and better reflector design and size etc it would likely kick but over the higher rated unit.

If you are wondering how bright a led flashlight is, you should take a look a the amazing Olight SR90.  There is no way to put it except for that it is a light cannon with 2200 lumens of flashlight power.  Incandescent vs led flashlight it’s a no brainer.

So what is the best LED flashlight?
With so many flashlights out on the marketplace these days it really is hard to find a good one.  I ended up finding an extremely bright flashlight, the model I ended up buying was a Fenix TK40.  This is a rather expensive torch not the kind of torch you would find in a two dollar shop.  It is very solidly built and can throw a beam of light over 300 meters.  I have never actually checked to see if this torch can throw the beam of light 300 meters, but certainly without doubt I’m pretty sure it does.  I actually think it throws it further than the 300 meters.  Before I purchased this LED flashlight I spent a couple of weeks researching which torch to get by going to all the forums on the Internet.  This torch was highly
recommended!
One thing I did notice about the LED based flashlights was that a lot of them use the different type of batteries.  One of the great benefits of this Fenix torch is that you can
actually use AA batteries.  It can run on four AA batteries or eight AA batteries, with the eight batteries being the recommended way to use the torch. This is very handy because it makes it easy to access replacement
batteries. AA batteries are very easy to find.  If you’ve gone camping for the weekend you can easily go down to the corner store or the nearest service station and you’re guaranteed that they will have AA batteries on the shelf.
Some people like the idea of using the eight AA batteries, and some people don’t.  I personally think this is a good idea simply because of the availability of the AA’s.

This torch has four modes of operation or should I say four brightness levels which are low, medium, high and turbo.  In comparison to my mag light which is a 3D cell flashlight?  If you adjust the beam so that it is as wide as the
Fenix TK 40 beam you will find that the Fenix only has to be on the medium power setting to out do the brightness of the maglight.
Now don’t get me wrong, the mag light is a very good torch but with the advent of technology and the way these LED bulbs can throw out light, the LED’s are the way to go.  With the Fenix on turbo mode the poor old mag light is simply just blown away.  It’s that bright it’s like having the high beam of your car in your hands.  With the mag light you have the adjustable focus on the front which allows you to change the light beam from a pencil beam to a wide spill.  The TK 40 on the other hand has such a wide spill and a floodlight of a pencil beam that it has the best of both worlds.  I can tell you now that you will not regret buying the Fenix TK 40 LED flashlight.  Like any good tool you get what you pay for.  Sometimes it’s
really worth paying that extra few dollars for something that’s going to last you forever.  I can definitely see this torch last me for many years to come.  Another good thing about the LED flashlights is that the light bulbs last for tens of thousands of hours.  Where as, with normal halogen light bulbs the filament can break and these light bulbs last nowhere near as long as the LED bulb.  This is an extremely bright LED flashlight and it is by far the best LED flashlight that I have ever bought.

I didn’t know this but interestingly the mag light actually has a plastic lens on on the front.  Where as the Fenix has a glass lens that has been finely ground that will let more light through than a plastic lens.  You do actually lose a fair bit of light by using a plastic lens like what is on the mag light instead of a glass ground lens.  Actually one of the first modifications you can do to your mag light to make it brighter is to change out the lens for a glass one.  Also with the four modes of operation that the TK 40 has there is an additional mode for each power setting.  So for each power setting low, medium, high and turbo if you double tap the on-off button the torch will go into that secondary mode.  In here there are four different types of emergency flash modes, which are slow flash, fast flash, SOS flash and strobe flash.  This would make it an ideal torch if you are doing a lot of night work, or maybe you are into night time navigational and orienteering courses.  Or maybe if you are an emergency worker you can use the different flash modes as markers at night time.
And it’s quite obvious that having the inbuilt the SOS flash function could definitely be a lifesaver if you are ever lost or stuck out in the bush.

On top of all this the TK 40 by Fenix is also waterproof to IPX-8 standard, has a type III hard anodized anti abrasive finish and works extremely well with rechargeable batteries.  I ended up buying eneloop rechargeable batteries as these are widely regarded as some of the best rechargeable batteries around.  They offer exceptional shelf life once they have been charged, meaning that you can pick them up after six months and they are still right to go.

Lets look at the Fenix TK40, EagleTac M2XC4 and the Olight M30 Triton.

If you have never used one or seen one of these newer bright LED flashlights you are going to be totally amazed when you first do.

The ledbulb is actually what is called a light emitting diode and currently the most popular one used for  torches is a globe that is called the Cree MC-E. in particular the quad-die.  I have this particular bulb in my Fenix TK40 and I can certainly vouch for you that this is an extremely bright bit of kit.
These particular Cree MC-E led globes have a life expectancy of 50,000 hours burn time.  Try that with a normal light bulb.  From something so tiny and so small it’s hard to imagine that so much raw and powerful light can explode from the end of a hand held torch.  Light is measured in a term called lumens and this is what the manufacturer will rate the output of their flashlight as.  Most reputable manufacturers will give a true indication of the light output where as some cheaper models you buy the ratings can be exaggerated.  Some of the brightest led flashlights such as the one I just mentioned the Fenix TK40, and others such as the EagleTac M2XC4 and Olight M30 Triton all use the Cree type bulbs.

Now let’s take a quick glance over these three different models of LED flashlights so that you can get an idea of what they are like etc.

Fenix TK40

My personal favourite is the Fenix flashlight because of a few things.  Firstly I like the shape and style of the torch wasn’t too big wasn’t too bulky.  It’s just that ideal average size for a general purpose flashlight.  Secondly I like the idea that it uses AA batteries this makes it really easy to get replacements.  And thirdly this baby pumps out 630 lumens of light which is on the higher end of the scale.  See here bright LED flashlights the Fenix TK40.

EagleTac M2XC4

UPDATED:Take a look at the EagleTac M3C4 XP-G R5 LED.  It has 1000 led flashlight lumens.

In competition we have the M2XC4 from EagleTac.  A well respected and regarded manufacturer they bring to the table a very good product as well.  Offering four different levels of power output starting at 40 lumens and
working its way up to 150, 360, and finally a massive 800 lumens of light output. It uses four lithium CR 123A batteries to power this beast. Measuring in at a length of 6.2 inches which is 15.7 cm this too is a good size flashlight. It is available with a wide variety of accessories such as different colored filters, cap boots, military specification heavy-duty lanyard with quick attachment and a heavy-duty nylon holster. This piece of equipment is one to consider on your next spending spree.

Olight M30 Triton

Finally we come to the Olight Triton M30 led Flashlight

Another serious contender, the Olight enters the realm of the other bright led flashlights.  The first thing that you noticed when you look at this is how it comes packaged and presented.  It comes in this heavy-duty black plastic carry case that is filled with all these other goodies and accessories for it.  A maximum of 700 lumens sees this baby lighting up the night sky putting it well within the scope of the other two torches.  It has this thing that is called a battery extender that screws onto the back of the torch allowing you to use extra batteries.  This is a great feature that you could use for your longer night activities such as camping and for a hunting light etc.  It gives off a cool white light and is more of a flood beam than a sharp pencil spot beam.

Bright led flashlights keep evolving……

as time and technology goes on, now people are talking about the newer generation of led flashlight bulbs such as the SST-50.  This baby apparently offers much greater light output than
the Cree MC-E units and uses less power.

The brightest LED torch….

Well the brightest led torch or led flashlight, which ever you want to call it would have to be the Olight SR90 Intimidator.

This is one hell of a light.  This thing is a weapon…… 2200 lumens, holy cow!

And let me tell you this.  It is a dedicated spot light or a hand held search light.  You only want to get this for long range spotting type work ie hunting/shooting/search and rescue.

It’s rated  on high mode at 2200 Lumens which will run for 80 Minutes and low mode at 700 Lumens for  9 hours.  LOL.  holy crap again.  The Fenix TK40 is rated maximum at 630 and it’s a damn bright light.  Imagine how bright 2200 lumens is.

And it’s pretty much only high or low.  So you can’t really turn it down for other not spot light tasks.  It does have a strobe mode though.

The rated throw distance of the Olight SR90 is 1000meters!!!

The throw on this lite is well nearly stupid,  it goes that far out that you couldn’t see that far anyway, unless you are looking through a gun scope or binoculars.  This thing is the most highly rated brightest led torch at a price point that is very reasonable.  Yes it does cost a fair bit on money but man, imagine having this baby on your next camping trip.  “Hey guys, look how bright my light is”…..

This flashlight is truly AWESOME!!! if you ever felt like you wanted to have all the power in the world buy this light.
it will blindingly bring a grown man to his knees,and it will put the power of sunlight in your hands, and it will have all your neighbors waiting in line
to hold it and use it. its a very big light, definatley not something you carry around casually, and
its NOT something you use around the house……i pretty much got it just to say i have it. and turning it on out back in the fields it GREAT fun.

PROS: insane light output for about half a mile, VERY sturdy, quality craftsmanship

CONS: it costs a lot of money,(some will think its worth it, like me), and its HUGE!!

I was hesitant to purchase a flashlight over $200, but I am not disappointed.
I’ve been cruising the Caribbean for 3 years now on my sailboat. I am often anchored in some
remote places with very little light. I had a Coleman Powermate light at 10M candlepower
that I would use to scan the water before turning in for the night or if I
heard noises on the water. This is an awesome light and for some strange reason is no longer
produced.  However, the battery was near death so I upgraded to the
Olight SR90 Intimidator beast.

I have to say, that I really feel like I am violating some type of international laws
when I turn this monster on at night. It lights up the night like the sun!
Unbelievable, you really have to witness the power first hand. I really was speechless
when I saw this beam for the first time! Too much fun.
I was receiving calls on the VHF radio wondering what was going on in my
part of the anchorage. I’ve learned over the years that ‘light’ is one of the best forms of safety.
After numerous boat thefts in the Dominican Republic anchorage a few years back,
an old man started shining a beam every night around the anchorage. The crime stopped
immediately. The Olight Intimidator would be a superb choice for this type of security operation given light output
and battery life. No one can hide from this beam!

I would estimate that you have excellent visibility for 1/4 mile and
can see things 1/2 mile away easily. It also would be a first rate choice
for entering a strange harbour at night or performing search and rescue.

After using this product, I feel like I own some Alien technology. Way to go Olight and I’m glad
to see that your company also works with one of my favorite companies “Fenix.”

Beast of a flashlight!,July 9, 2011

I bought this from Amazon and have not put it down since!
I can see things a half mile away with this incredible flashlight! I put a smaller strap on it and
sling it over my shoulder and I’m ready for the woods of Pennsylvania. This thing is worth
every penny, as it lights up the night
putting my six D-cell Maglite to utter shame.
Simply no comparison with any other light, period.

Led flashlight lumens are a measure of light.  Wikipedia link about lumens.
This measure of light tells us how bright a particular flashlight is.  Obviously the bigger the number
the brighter the torch light will be.  With so many different torches on the market there are many
different levels of power output.  High power flashlights will have up to and over 600 and 700 lumens of
light power.  The Fenix tk40 for example has an output of 630 lumens.
This 630 lumens with the combination of their designed lens reflector allows the light to go as far as
300meters.  The Led Lenser X21 has an amazing 1070 lumens of light, and as quoted on their
website www.ledlenserusa.com  The X21 is quite simply the brightest hand-held LED light
ever produced.  Running off of four D cell batteries, it has a battery life of 600 hours and is
effective out to 1540feet.   Compared to the tk40 this is 469 meters.  It uses 7 leds and also
has an adjustable focusable beam.

UPDATE: The olight SR90 is now probably the brightest led flashlight that is commercially produced and is at a reasonable price point considering how powerful this led light is.  It has a massive 2200 lumens of light output, which puts it in the league of HID (High Intensity Discharge) lights.  This is a mega light cannon.

Now to knock it up a notch let me introduce you to the Surefire HellFighter.  I still can’t imagine
how bright this thing must be with 3000 lumens output it has.  Specifically designed for military use on
heavy guns such as .50cal sniper rifles, machine guns and to be used mounted on any vehicle, boat or
ship.  This allows it to also be used as a searchlight or spotlight.  It can handle the rigours
of weapon recoil and combat fighting, is water resistant and made from a very strong aerospace grade alumium.
Havng a Mil-Spec Type III anodized finish that makes it very resistant to abrasion and abuse.
Because it uses a LED globe there is no filament that can break like in normal lights.  This is
another great feature of any led flashlight as the life expectancy of the bulb itself is in the tens of thousands
of hours.
The amount of light and lumens that can be generated from a led flashlight can be anything from 2 lumens to the
600-700 mark right up to the 3000 mark as mentioned before.  But generally speaking most end users will
be in the market for a unit that is in the 700 and under bracket.  I did notice that the HellFighter from
Surefire has restrictions on where it can be sold and imported.  Imagine having one though….
I personally have the Fenix tk40 and it is a brilliant light.  It’s not too
big and it has four levels of power output which are 13, 93, 277 and 630 lumens.  This ability to select
one of four settings really does make these torches very handy.  Not always do you need the led
flashlight lumens on high power.  This is especially true if you wake up in the middle of the night and your
eyes have been adjusted to the night darkness.  Even 10 lumens is more than enough light to see what is
going on in total darkness.
Finally, it is always a good idea to shop around and compare prices on any deals.  Prices can vary greatly
and there are many different brands and types of flashlights on the market today.  So take a little time
and check out all the different brands and models first.

In the year of 1979 the Mag lite flashlight was born, and a large following of this excellent product has been created.

Maglite  Solitare:

Very small and weighing only a tiny amount these little torches are so handy to use as keychain flashlights. It is powered by AAA size batteries and for it’s size, the light it puts out is very good. This is an ideal birthday present for that friend or loved one. The price is really good and offers excellent performance for something so small.

Mini Maglite:

The mini mag light is a very popular torch to keep in your travel bag or your glove box of your car.  Running off of two AA batteries this is a neat light that is easily held in the mouth between the teeth if you need hands free operation while you are working on something in the dark.  You can even unscrew the adjustable beam lens which will reveal the exposed light globe.  This feature is known as the candle stick feature.  What you can now do is take that lens that you unscrewed and put it on the table and insert the base of the flashlight into it.  This will keep it supported on a level surface allowing it to burn just like a candle giving light off in all directions.

Mag light Flashlight for C cell batteries:

This is where we start getting into the bigger units.  These still have the excellent build quality of the smaller products but also off a brighter light beam.  Available in three different versions which are the two cell, three cell and four cell C size batteries.  All made from a high-strength precision machined and engineered aluminum alloy body and finished with a corrosion resisting anodized finish.

Maglight Flashlight for D cell batteries:

This version of the torch offers capacity for 2,3,4,5, and 6 D cell batteries.  These are quite often used for military personnel and law-enforcement agencies.  You usually see the security guards walking around at night with one of these big bad boys.

MagCharger Rechargeable:

And for those that wish to save money on replacement batteries all the time, the rechargeable version is another great option for you.  It is much more economical to use a rechargeable battery system in flashlights as opposed to using disposable batteries all the time.

Mini Maglite led:

LED-based flashlights are now all the rage.  Available in two different sizes which are two AA or three AA batteries these newer technology versions are in my opinion the only way to go.

Mag lite led:

The biggest version in the led series is available in either 2,3 or 4 D cell batteries.  An amazing amount of light is thrown out from this thing. This would easily blind any would-be burglar or robber trying to vandalize or steal anything from your house.  The intense bright white light is so bright it really does temporarily blind you for a few seconds.  What more could you want?  Built tough and solid, is extremely bright and offers longer runtimes than the standard bulbs.

Sanyo low self discharge eneloop batteries

These rechargeable eneloop batteries are a new breed of battery that are designed to be able to hold their charge for months and months on end. The fancy name for these type of batteries are called “low self discharge batteries”.

Basically the normal type of rechargeable batteries that we are all used to, will lose their power after a few months of not being used.

The beauty of these new eneloop ones are that you can charge them up once, put them in the cupboard and take them back out to use later on in 6 months time and they will still work.

Normal one’s will not be able to do this as they have the “self-discharge” characteristics. You can read up more about these special batteries here low self-discharge nickel-metal hydride battery (LSD NiMH).

I used these fantastic rechargeable batteries in my super bright led flashlight, the Fenix TK40. They have performed flawlessly for me ever since I bought the flashlight and the batteries.

These are also good, or should I say excellent to be used in flash photography equipment. Other people who have also decided to run with the eneloop’s have nothing but great comments to say about them. You can see some of the comments below.

I was initially skeptical when I bought these but figured it couldn’t hurt. I
needed a set for my Nikon SB-600 flash. The 2700 mAh Energizers I had performed just fine until
they sat in the flash for a month, at which point I had to carry a spare set “just in case”.
I charged the Eneloops, placed them in the flash and had my first call a month
later. They worked wonderfully. I went the whole evening without needed spares. I used them again
two months later and got a solid hour or two before they were exhausted. They easily lasted 2-3x as
long as the Energizers and where in the flash for 2x as long. All-in-all, they’ve performaed very
well. They may not maintain 85% of their charge after one year at room temp (as one reviewer
suggested) but they certainly “sit in the bag” far better than my others. I am slowly phasing out
all my non-Eneloops as a result…

• Holds 75% charge after 3 years storage
• Can be charged 1500 times
• Only takes a few charges to get you money back versus using non-rechargeable batteries
• Come charged from the factory so they are ready to use straight from the packet

The Photon Micro Light 2 has a LED flashlight bulb that is very bright considering its size. This makes it ideal for when you’re coming home after a big night on the town and you need to find the keyhole for the front door of your house. Having a small switch that you can keep locked on in the on position makes it great for map reading and searching around and seeing where you are in dark areas.

The lithium batteries last an extremely long time even with regular use. One of the reasons why this is so bright is because they use Nichia LED bulbs, which allows them to consume the same amount of power but give out twice as much light.   Performs much better than other keychain lights, November 4, 2005

You can find keychain flashlights on eBay for $1, but they are ridiculously inferior to this light. I’ve had mine for a month, and already used it several dozen times. I didn’t know how handy these were! These Micro-Light II’s use the newer Nichia LED’s, which are twice as bright as normal LED’s, but use the same amount of power (so these easily outshine most other keychain lights)… It isn’t as bright as a hand-held flashlight, but you can easily use this for walking at night if you don’t have access to a larger flashlight. The on/off switch also works great and does not accidentally turn on while in my pocket. I really have nothing to complain about this product, except that the price may seem high. In this case though you do get what you pay for. The batteries are two 2016 Li-Ion watch-sized batteries and are easily available at your local mega store or mall.

Beware that these are not very water resistant! I don’t think water will permanently damage them, but you may not be able to get a light out of it while it is wet since seems to be no waterproofing on the case.

I bought one of these at an Eastern Mountain Sports a few years ago. I thought the price was a little high at fist, but that went away after I got to use it.It is very bright, I had the original battery in mine still after 3 1/2 years, but it was getting low. Replacement batteries are only about $3 for a good one.

I have purchased some of the generic keychain lights for other people as gifts, and none of them were nearly as bright as this one.

I lost a set of keys with the Photon II attached so I need to replace it, I wouldn’t be hunting down the exact model again if I was not happy with the last one

One of the best things about this torch is that it is turned on and off by using a twisting function. To turn it on you simply twist it one way and to turn it off you just twist it back again. Unlike flashlights that have a simple push on push off type of button, the twisting function of this keychain flashlight will make it much harder for it to be accidentally turn on while it is in a handbag or your pocket with your keys.

In addition to the titanium with white LED model, it’s available in black with a white, green, or blue LED.Its twist-on/off functionality can be operated with one hand and makes it hard to be accidentally switched on when bumped around in a pocket or bag; the only downside is that it can’t easily be used for signalling. Another very minor point is that the pocket clip isn’t reversible so it can’t be clipped to the bill of a cap. Also keep in mind the beam is NOT focusable despite the twist-on/off switch; it employs brightness-enhancing reflector optics which wouldn’t work with spot-to-flood focusing. Also note their suggested retail price is about 15, so don’t be fooled by sites that charge more or claim they’re “discounting” it to 15! The Streamlight KeyMate is brighter than the small MagLites, which is what I was looking for. For those who don’t find it bright enough, check to make sure you have it turned on firmly. Mine lights before being fully on. If you want a tiny, bright, tough light, this is it.

This well-constructed little flashlight is much brighter than I expected. I bought for use inside a tent, for which it is really too bright, but it’s perfect on a keychain for lighting a path or door locks. Unlike many other LED keychains, you don’t have to continuously press anything to keep it on, just twist the handle 1/4 turn.The flashlight is really solidly built and extremely lightweight. Whenever they finally give up, I’ll be replacing the included LR41 batteries with SR41, which cost about the same and last longer. For what you get this flashlight is a great bargain!

Nice little flashlight with one major flaw,November 27, 2009

The flashlight is extremely small and shockingly bright for its size. It seems sturdy and very well made; even the attached clip works well. Sadly, since this is a “screw the cap to turn the light on” type of flashlight, the cap can fall off extremely easily (at which point all of the batteries also fall out). I had the light attached to my key chain for about a week. At that point I looked down at my keys and all that remained was the empty case attached to the key ring.

Well there you have it some of the best keychain flashlights that are damn fine lights.

So firstly, why did I get this fancy maha charger instead of something like the Sanyo battery charger shown below?

Well to perfectly honest I can’t remember why I got this Sanyo charger in the first place.  I have had if for a while and have even forgot where I bought it from. I think that I must have bought some rechargeable batteries and this came with them as a package deal or special etc.

Does this charger work? sure it does.
It does both AA and AAA rechargeable batteries.  Just pop in the batteries and plug it into the power point and away you go.
But for me, being a slight tech geek I like to have the best of the best.  If you are like me then you too should take a look at the Maha MH-C9000 wizard charger I’m about to show you.

The charger has the capacity for charging both AA batteries and AAA batteries.

If you look at the picture to the left, you can see where the battery marking is and then at the bottom it shows the two different slots. The AAA ones sit down lower into the unit as they are much shorter than the AA’s.  This charger can only handle 4 batteries at a time.

Here you can see the big easy to read LED screen. The options you see are, charge, refresh/analyze, break-in, discharge and cycle.  These are all features that make this a top of the line device for fixing old dead battery’s and bringing them back to life, when other chargers can not.

The only thing I do not like about the charger is this little fold out leg.

The leg is there to prop the unit up at an angle to help the air flow and circulate around it. The problem I have is that I can not get my finger under the metal leg to lift it up. There is not much room. I seem to always chew my finger nails and I do not have enough length in them to lever up that leg. So I have to use a knife or something else to prop it up.

Why don’t I use my fingernails you say, well I keep chewing the damn things and they ain’t very long, lol.
That fold out stand is no real big deal, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

This charger rescued all my AA batteries, February 9, 2009

I have 12 AA Energizer rechargeable batteries. After using for more than 3 years on camera and other devices, all of them were dying. For the past 3 years, I recharged them by using Energizer charger in 15 minutes, they could last only for 10-20 shots on Canon digital camera. After I read reviews of this product, I would like to give it a try. After analyzing all of the dying batteries, some of them were even below 100 mAh(the full capacity is 2200 mAh, some are 2300 mAh), but after following the simple instructions, I rescued all of my batteries, all of them are above 1800 mAh (with one exception — 1460 mAh) some even close to 2000 mAh. For more than 3-year-old batteries, I am very satified with the results.
Also, in the manual, there are some important knowledge regarding battery recharge. If you have some dying batteries, this product is the perfect rescuer for you.

I bought this charger to replace several basic chargers that had accumulated over the years. The problem with them was that I was never sure whether the batteries were fully charged, or whether one cell in the group was faulty and limiting performance of the whole set, etc.

The Maha MH-C9000 takes away the doubt and gives me confidence that the cells are being charged properly. The display gives all the information I need to know the status of each cell (4 completely independent and programmable channels) and it lets me fully control the charging process. This is of great value to me.

The charger reports the actual capacity of each cell based on the current delivered during the discharge cycle in the programs that do discharging, so you know after the cycle is complete what the capacity of each cell is, and you can use that to match the cells for use in groups; and also to determine which cells need more cycling to return their capacity.

Great charger, I am so glad I bought this baby.

It isn’t a simple plug-into-the-wall charger. It is a for-serious, consistent charger. I use it to recharge batteries for my Wiimotes and for my camera flashes. I have been very impressed with its performance so far.
